Get shocked when exiting.....???

Is anyone having a problem with getting shocked when exiting their expedition and then touching the metal door?? Is this a ground issue?? What can I do to make it stop?? Very annoying! ahaha!

its common in all cars. i assume you have leather seats and you are wearing a fabric other than cotton.

Its most common for women who wear polyester or nylon clothing.

if u remember long ago people having rubber strips hanging from the rear bumper touching the ground......i once asked...why? The few people i seen with them said it grounds the vehicle to prevent just the problem you are having...is it true, i have no idea but just an idea for you if you want to get creative and come up with a similar method.

Its not just the expys that shock you my excursion also shocks you. I thought maybe the heating element in the seats was causing it any thoughts ?

PS I'm new to this but it seems like you cant go to the dealer anymore because they have no clue about any thing anymore so I turn my own wrenches

I used to own a Dodge Ram 1500 with cloth seats....It was NOTORIOUS for shocking me when exiting---especially in cold/dry weather. I just got into the habit of holding onto a metal part of the door when I exited and never got shocked again. Just open it a little....grab a piece of the frame.....step out......shut the door...you'll never get shocked......

I never get shocked in my expy (leather seats) but in my truck, wifes focus and my work van, all cloth seats, if it is low humidity you will get a pop. Nothing major but annoying. We are coming out of that weather down here, soon it will be very humid and static is not a problem then.

The rubber straps are actually coper strips covered in rubber or impregnated with it.

I see that this is an old thread... My 00 Expy EB just started doing this "exit shock" to me... this morning I just got it to start it up, went to immediately exit and got shocked!! I would think static buildup would only occur after some driving. (ps. I always wear cotton, and it's on leather seats... however, this morning, I had only been in the Expy long enough to crank it...)

I don't recall this happening at all in recent years... now it's doing it everytime I get out - yesterday the weather was in the 60's and it was still doing it...

I'm not really buying the weather-related explanation - is there any other electrical problem that could have arisen that is the cause of this??
