I Got a local racing shop here that has 351w short blocks, I assume it was a roller because he said it required no modifications to run a roller cam but would run both. He had it there for 1500 bucks top quality parts all the way through with no cam. Hes also got full engines all stock efi 351's with everything injectors and all for 2,900.... Do you think this is a decent price? Now I dont need the full engine but it seemed like a good price for a brand new crate motor.
The guy is big out here so there is no doubt he does good work and his motors have all top quality parts. The only other option I have is this ebay motor that is in the right ball park for money.
if its setup for what you need go for it. what top quality parts? you dont need forged internals unless your running nitros or forced air so why pay for that extra stuff that isnt necessary. make sure they know what your putting the motor into. some speed shops are more car oriented then 4wd and there for are built for more hi rpm power and would not be a good combo for a 4wd . so ask lots of questions
So 1500 bucks is ok for a short block....Id rather go neer by to get it instead of that ebay store. By quality parts I mean he doesnt skimp on rings and bearings...stuff like that. The pistons arent forged but it doesnt come with a cam. Im gonna go up to his shop tomorrow and talk to him, he likes blondes so i'll take the ol'lady maybe ill get a discount lol! I almost floated 2200 for a chp 393 stroker but I dont need all that for a few more pounds of torque, then again it comes with a cam.
Not really the local shops charge about 900 for a short block rebuild and the junk yards wont sell me the block only. They want to sell me a running motor for 600 bucks that will have a bunch of crap i will have to take back to the junk yard after I strip it down...Thats why im considering this route. This would never happen back home, Id get a block for 100 bucks at U wrench it and get it prepped for 250, and then Id be ready for assembly. This part of california blows.
I dont think I can around here. Honestly If you take them a short block and they recondition and assemble it 800 should be a good price total investment, including the 100 for the short block from a bone yard. Not here though like I said its 600 bucks just to get an engine.
Well I went and picked up the short block today, I didnt check the casting but im gonna look tomorrow. Its a 351 stock crank and rods, hyper pistons .060 over flattops...with 11 cc fly cut reliefes in them. I should get about 9.45:1 compression with 64cc heads. He said he had a bunch of gt40 "Y" heads all aluminum for 800 a set, I did have my heart set on edelbrocks but thats a very good price so I might have to pick them up next payday.

Me personally, I'd spend a little extra and get the Edlebrock heads.
Yea i was just lookin and I agree....those 160cc runners are kinda crap. Im wondering If I can run the AFR 185's with 2.02 intakes? It should have plenty of bore, there only 100 bucks more from flatlander and they flow lots better even than the edelbrocks.
