To add to John's comment, the same auto transmissions have different output shafts and types.
You have the following options:
1. Find a '65 - '79 truck with the same engine, same transmission, same rear axles and same wheelbase.
2. Have one made up to fit your truck
I recommend you have it made up. Most boneyards today use fork lifts which bend driveshafts.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a 2001 f-150 that was lowered and the drive shaft was not replaced and is now too long and causing problems with tranny seal. It is aluminum and am told it can't be cut down. My truck is sitting still because of this problem. Please if anyone knows how to fix this. Or which drive shaft will work............thanks Linda
Your question is not for this forums year truck, but is generic so I will offer a suggestion. Look in your local Yellow pages for Drive Shafts. There is one in mine, and contact them about getting the correct length for your truck.
Any further questions should be posted in the year correct forum for your truck.
i put a automatic behind my 352 in my 66 1/2 ton, does anyone know which drive shaft will work with this application?
I am in agreement with both Johns, however, let me toss a little snippit in as well. When going from the 4-speed to the truck version C6 begind my FE, All I actually needed was the shaft from the trans to the carrier bearing that came off the donor automatic trans truck. The shaft from the carrier back is the same length.
