Headlight problems

I have a 97 explorer that the low beam headlights will not turn on. Checked all fuses and replaced switch, problem still presists. Any suggestions?

Heres how it's wired: dash switch to multifunction/dimmer switch then to the fuses, lamps out module, then to the headlights.

Since both low beams are out, it's most likely a bad multifunction switch.

If you have a VOM & want to test the multifuncton/dimmer switch post back & I'll tell you how to do it.

something i've came across is on the back of the multifunction dimmer (turn signal) there are 3 wiring plugs. 2 big ones and 1 small gray one with only 4 wires going in. I've found a few that that small connector was bad and the connections were loose. Just check the connectors.

I can provide a scan of the preliminary EVTM that I have for my 97 Mountaineer... should do the trick. Pop me an e-mail addy via a PM.

Of course, once you get the info it is up to you to figure out how to use it without killing yourself or the truck

A they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Looks like K2JJB has got you covered on that.

As MickyB said this could also be a broken wire at the switch.

Good luck with it.

I have only one headlight out and the bulb is good. The switch is functioning properly but no power to this headlight on low beam. Hi beam works fine. I thought I remember reaking on a forum that it could be the headlight out" system check printed circuit board. Where is that located?

Thanks for your help in advance

Yeah the lamps out module/LOM is the most likely problem.

Lots of guys have found loose solder joints in the module & simply resoldered them. Sure beats spending 80 bucks for a new one.

As I recall the dash panel just above the center console needs to be removed to get to the LOM.
