oil pressure problem
94 F-150 5.0 engine. The gauge was dropping out so I changed the oil. Was still dropping out so I had a new gauge sender put in. Pressure was still dropping so I went to put in a mechanical gauge in. To get the sender out I pulled the oil filter to get some extra room and realized the oil filter was bone dry. Has about 10 miles since I changed the oil so there is no reason the filter should be empty. Didn't bother hooking up the gauge after I saw the empty filter. Engine does not sound like there is no oil.

The factory oil pressure gauge is really a switch that comes on if there is 6-7psi of oil pressure. Loose connections in this stupid system often show up as "dropping oil pressure." Verify with a mechanical gauge. If it is low, suspect clogged oil pick up screen or bad oil pump. If you have 4x4, replacing oil pump will be pricey.
