A while back I was wheeling my '86 F-250 4x4 and got it burried pretty bad.
anyway, I had only one tire spinning up front so I stepped on the brakes to give that free tire a bit of resistance...well I got carried away and just stood on the peddle... about 30 sec later I heard a big BANG.
All the u-joints in the front look good so I know thats not the problem.
Did I destroy the hubs or is it something in the axle? it only binds up when both hubs are locked.
When I burried the truck the D-side tire was spinning and the P-side wasn't so I stepped on the brakes trying to stop the d-side and get the p-side moving to try and get me moving.
I kept stepping down on the peddal with more force until I heard something give.
If the hubs are locked I get a binding in the front, enough that it'll drag the tire, or it'll cause the back tires to break free (depending on what type of ground it is).
If they're unlocked It is drivable wouldn't know there was a problem unless told about it.
Same thing happened to me once, I was pulling out my buddy who was stuck and when trying to tug him out I gave it some fuel and "POP" heard something break, and I no longer was able to use 4wd, after getting it fixed they opened it up and found the spider gears in pieces and a bad seal.
