It depends where you are putting it. If it is on your bicep area it is not unbearable. If you are putting it on you shin it hurts. Usually if the area has more meat under the skin it hurts less. Don't know about the genitals though. I'm not that brave.
I got my first one about 3 weeks ago on my arm. It hurt, but it wasn't very bad, it felt about like a bee stinging you continuously for an hour. I know that sounds bad, but it was a "good hurt", (if there is any such thing) or at least that's how the guy giving me the tattoo explained it to me. Honestly, it wasn't that bad, I plan on getting another one in the near future.
I went to about 5 different tattoo parlors before I found the right place to give me my tattoo. I would recomend you being very picky in choseing the right place, make sure the place and the people look clean. The first few I went to the room was filled with smoke, it didn't look like it had been cleaned in about a year, and the guys running the place looked like they were stoned. I finally found a place that was very clean and the people running it looked clean and were very professional.
Mine felt more like a burn than a bee sting (bicep/upper arm). I agree with getting quality work, it isn't like you can just re-do it (well, you can, but more money/ more pain). This is something that you are going to have as long as you have your body, so choose carefully. (Made a promise to myself years ago never to have a woman's name tattoo'd on me- even my wife)
Be picky and hope you'll post a (respectable) picture of it.
Yes, be very picky. Most states / communities have specific health codes.
It don't stinking hurt.
I got my first one on my 50th birthday...a panther climbing up my left arm. Complete with blood drops leaking from the claws digging in. Replicating one my Father had.
I added my second one on my 51st birthday...long story with that one...short version...during my little celebration someone came up with the bright idea that we should all get a tattoo since it was my birthday...8 out of 9 of us did so...my wife included. She might have had more than one drink that night.
This second one is one I designed for my right arm with the Texas Lone Star flag with it's star on blue field unfurling / waving into the the Stripes of the American flag....
BTW: My daughter passed out when she got hers...but hey, I wouldn't worry about it. It only hurts as long as you can feel the pain.
I got a bunch of 'em. Hands, forearms, upper arms, neck, chest, back, legs. Hurt? Nah, they didn't hurt a bit. In fact, the best place to get a tattoo (SSN) is on the bottom of yer feet. Yep, feels rrreeaaaallly good!

Sound like you were bitten by the tattoo bug, they become very addicting don't they. Me...had five done in under a year, both shoulders are covered along with the upper arms, nothing near my neck though, wasn't brave enough. I found the outline hurt the most and the color was gravy to me.
I don't recommend this..., I have them and wish I did'nt
I didn't want to be the first to step in and politely discourage it, but since it's been done...
I don't think you're a bad person if you get them or anything like that, so no one take it as a personal attack. I just see it as a poor way of getting whatever point across that you're trying to do. There's better ways to express who you are, or like the way you look. Just remember, you're already completely different than anyone else.
