Exclamation lights

I had this problem with my van and replaced the switch, still had the problem so I returned the switch and purchased yet another but of a different brand, still had the same problem.I did some checking and found the original switch had shorted and damaged the plug or terminal some people call it, on the wire harness, the plug that the headlight switch connects to.Pull the switch again and look at the plug to see if it has signs of melting or other damage.I had to splice in another plug and the new switch worked fine,no problems now.You will need to make a trip to the scrap yard to get the plug you need but it's fairly easy.Good luck.

To answer your question : Yes, NEW does not make it GOOD.

Buy a Motorcraft switch.

I had a similar problem with my '73. Lights were blinking, and new switch didn't change it. I found that the wiring near the rear bumper was shorting to the frame. Right ahead of the bumper, the taillight wiring goes through a hole in the crossmember, it had rubbed through and was shorting. Repaired the wire, covered it with rubber hose and all is fine.
