carb change
I have a 1985 300 with the stupid emissions carb on it. The smog pump is not hooked up and the computer is gone. Would it be better to rebuild this carb or buy an older non-emissions carb. Yes, I know the ignition system would need to be changed but everything would be so much simpler after the switch. What kind of fuel mileage would I be looking at with the non-emission carb? I got an average of 16-17 with the stock carb, SROD 4-speed, and 3.08 gearing.

Your truck will run without the computer controlled carb, my 84 does. I would get rid of the 1bbl, install an adapter and go with a 2bbl. Do that along with EFI manifolds, ditch the the cats, and enjoy more power and mileage!
