anyone ever run a holley 2300 350 cfm carb on a 292? I have a chance to get a brand new one very cheap. I have a 4bbl i wanted to put on there but cant afford to buy a 4bbl intake right now. so that will have to wait i guess. thanks
I posted a similar question to this site recently: http://www.network54.com/Forum/88781/
The question regarded application of a model 2100 Autolite and 292. The Ford carb expert there said he thought with a good breathing 292 (dual exhausts, larger valves, etc.) that the 300 cfm with 1.14 venturis would be a good possibility. If the venturi sizes on the 2300 correlate to the 2100, your 350 cfm would have 1.21 vents, which you probably wont like. It will also have the emissions add ons that are unnecessary. Mileage could be worse than a 500 cfm 4V.
However, if it is really cheap give it a try.

i have a 2100 on their right now, its been OK, have gone through 3 to find a good one and they all had leaky throttle shafts, i was kinda thinking the 2300 might be too much carb for it. Maybe im better off using the 4bbl and trying to find an intake. Has anyone had any experience adapting a squarebore carb to the earlier A manifold?
From my experience the y-block will take as much gas as you can give it. I have a 750 cfm Holley on my 312 and it runs great. A friend of mine has two 500 cfm Carters on his and he loves it. As far as the adaptors you mention, I'm not sure which one you mean. There are adaptors out there from Offenhauser and Speedway Motors.
I have a 4 BBl manifold on my 272 56 F100 and have always had trouble with way too much fuel. Each year I pull the plugs and they are jet black. You can smell the rich runner out the duals. I now have a eldebrock 500 cfm w/manual choke that has been jetted as low as possible. I have the drivetrain out and should have it back in within 30-60 days. I hope It'll run better, but I also have the original 2 BBl manifold and have always been interested in going back to 2 bbl. I am curious what you find out ultimately.

Sounds more like a carb problem and not the size. Since the generic carb brands use identical primaries over 2-3 models and just vary the secondary venturis there is very little difference between say a 500 and 600 for less than WOT. And with vacuum secondaries the engine vacuum will limit the flow to what it can use; basic physics.
Holleys in particular are notorious for problems with internal leaks, blown PV's, etc that are ofen blamed on "too much carb". Going to small jets that upset the ideal Fuel/Air ratio is junk science at best. Trying to second guess the experts usually doesnt work at home.
