I liked the comment about the lapbelts putting your head through the windshield---------assuming the steering wheel through your chest doesn't stop you first. Many have talked about a tilt-steering wheel upgrade but the ones from 78/79 I have seen are not collapsable. Motorhaven has a replacement shaft from the bottom of the steering column to the steering box that will collapse but I don't know if this provides the same protection as a collapsable steering column.
Don't forget a standard bench seat or the factory original "mustang" bucket seats will not keep your numbskull from going through the rear window incase of a rear end impact---not to mention your neck may break.
I have a 20 plus Word file I can email to anyone as an attachment or just as part of the email text to whoever wants it. The file is a cut and paste from various threads on seats and seatbelts including the current one in this forum. Many good comments from Rebocardo and others. It isn't organized in any way but gives you a lot of stuff mentioned here to sort through.
My plan, still not executed, is to replace the seats(bucket or bench with head rests--read supports), put a tilt steering column with a smaller wheel(hopfully collapsable although I don't know a source), replace the shaft going from the bottom of the steering column to the steering box, and put the three point seat belts in.
Thanks for all the help although it does seem like this site has been relatively quiet lately.
Thought I had better clarify what I meant by 20 plus in my previous post.
The Word file is 22 pages and covers info from this forum on seats and seatbelts. Like I indicated I will be glad to email to anyone who wants it. I didn't just shove it into a post because of its length and the fact it isn't organized but is just a cut and past of various contributors comments.

I just bought an abused 72 F-100 and just getting started with all the work that it needs. I didn't have the time so I had an auto shop totally replace the brakes on all four corners but still need to replace the manual brakes with power assist. I am a firm beleiver in no really caring how well the truck runs but When I want it to stop it better do a good job.
