Valve tick tick tick

Ok when i ripped my engine apart there was a small tick that went away as the oil pressure came up. now when i had it apart i forgot that a lifter maybe getting weak. anyways i re installed old lifters on my new comp cam. now i have lots of ticks. curiuos if it is because i didnot install the lifters with the holes all facing up. since when i removed them they were not pointing the same way i didn't think it was neccesary. Is it? if i tear it down again to remove them should i just buy new ones? or chance it. btw can you remove lifters without removing factory heads?

you should never use the old lifters with a new cam. The lifters will not match the new cam and will ruin both of them.

You can remove lifters w/out removing heads. On the V-8's, you have to remove the valve covers and intake. On the straight six, remove the valve cover and liter gallery cover.

This is true when it comes to flat tappet lifters however on a roller lifter if the rollers are in good shape there should be no problem with reusing. i asked even the comp cam guys and they said techinally roller lifters should not wear out. only if something terrible happened to them would you not be able to re use them on a new cam.
