Question Block Heater

I have seen the tech article on the engine block heater and the part #, but my question is: Has anyone installed the heater cord? I did not recieve this as an option but would like to install it. Also where can I purchase it online, I have the part #, but not sure where to order it from. Do any of the sponsors sell this part?

Thanks
Jerm

j_lauer,

I have not installed one myself, but it is my understanding that it is fairly simple plug-in procedure. Hopefully someone will come along that has installed one and explain the procedure.

Discount Ford Parts is an FTE sponser, try them for the part. Here is a link to their site:

Hope this helps

My 06 did not come with one either and I followed this forum and found that you can purchase the cord from Napa for less than $20. Install is as easy as plugging it in and routing the cord to the front of your truck. The plug end is located on the passenger side above the starter motor. Go to the Ford Diesel Doctor forum for photos and an explaination installation. Search this forum for prior posts and you will find the Napa parts # and you can go online and purchase it and have it mailed to your home. Good luck and happy trucking.

Here is Ford Doc's site for heater cord install:

http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/articl...icle-05-20.php

Cord part number at International: Z3500043

This info is also available in our very own 6.0 Tech Folder.

Thanks

Thanks for all the great info..I ordered the part from NAPA $18 plus tax. That seems a bit better than the $90 from the stealer. Now I will follow the instructions that were posted earlier.

Thanks again.

This site kicks a--, (well you know)

Just have a few medium size zip ties and the install will not be a problem. Took me about 15min to do mine. If you have larger hands D/C the boost tube from the cooler and there will be all kinds of room to work with.

Later!

Well, let's say with labor, benefits, and parts, the cord costs Ford $ 35.00 to install. For 250,000 trucks...just to pick a #....that is a savings of $8.7 million. Especially since I doubt they lowered the MSRP by $ 35.00 each.

Add that to the glove box light, hood insulation, and rear fender wheel covers...mucho grande cost reduction. Doubt they lost many, if any, sales over these "cut" items.

Agreed...But why put the heater in w/o the cord? They could save money there too!!

Why not let the Buyer know that it is not installed. If I knew it was not coming with one I would have paid the extra money to have them install it.

Agreed.

As far as not installing the block heater in the first place? I would imagine that Navistar installs the heater itself as part of their package to Ford. Plus, a cord can be easily installed anywhere in the country by virtually anyone, whereas, installing the heater may be much more costly.

This way, any given diesel engine can be shipped anywhere without regard to climate.
