I bought my truck (2002 F-350 V-10 4x4) Last december with 78,000 kilometers on it. I love my truck! The next best thing to buying the truck was joining FTE. I about 2 weeks after buying my truck I went to switch off the Overdirve. I was sitting at a light just kinda pissing around with nothing to do. and low and behold the light never came on. I pushed the button again, still nothing. The transmission shifts fine, and i KNOW i have overdrive. so i was thinking maybe the lights burnt out. I work a as a mechanic at a Import dealership, cars/trucks are nothing new to me. but seeing as how I'm good friends with the parts guy at the ford dealership just across the street i ventured into the dealership. He told me that the switches were horrible for going and kept several in stock. I was like sure gimmie a switch I'll give it a shot for the 20bucks its gonna cost me. so i finish my shift go out to my truck and install it. Still nothing. HMMMMMmmm...... Well, I drive home feeling a little dissapointed, but having rulled out the switch I opt to have do a quick search on the forums to see if anyone else has had this problem. Sure enough, I found a excellent post on the wires breaking under the steering colum cover, AND it listed how to fix it, not that it was difficult but it was kinda nice how they mentioned using something to push the pin in from the lock cylinder so it could be removed so the upper part of the steering colum cover could be removed to gain access to the broken wires. So I go out to my truck and in the space of five minutes have my steering colum ripped apart and sure enough the damb wire goin to the button are broken!!! So I soldered in some small jumper wires heat shrank them up and reassembled the whole thing. overdrive button works GREAT!!!! Sorry to make thins into such a long winded explanation but i just wanted to say THANKS for all the great advise!!!
