Pre Pump mod questions

Ok I want to do the in tank/ Pre pump mods but I have a few questions.
First question does anyone know if this will screw up anything for emissions testing?
Second question will this improve or decrease fuel millage?
Im going to go with a 100 micron rating filter what is a good brand and also for a pre pump what is a good reliable brand that is not over kill on price.
Also Can i mount the pre pump directly in line with the factory pump on the frame and is there a certain distance that i should mount the pre pump from the factory pump or tank?
Last but not least the new filter will go before both pumps right?
Also anything special to look for in the filter or pump I know the pump should be low in psi like 5 psi and around 75 GPH

-No it will not. Your simply eliminating air from the fuel system
Second question will this improve or decrease fuel millage?
-I have increased my mileage by +2mpg.
Im going to go with a 100 micron rating filter what is a good brand and also for a pre pump what is a good reliable brand that is not over kill on price.
-I purchased the higher end "System 1" filter from Diesel Manor. My personal justification for this is its my truck and I plan on running it until the wheels fall off. “You only get what you pay for”
Also Can i mount the pre pump directly in line with the factory pump on the frame and is there a certain distance that i should mount the pre pump from the factory pump or tank?
-Yes you can mount it directly to the frame before the pump. The directions that came with my kit from diesel manor had no mention of a specified maximum or minimum distance from the pump. I installed mine in an accessible location.
Last but not least the new filter will go before both pumps right?
-Yes it will

-I don't know the minimun filter requirements.

I hope I was of some help to you... Jeff in NM...OUT

Redneckboy, I think the mod you're referring to is called a lift pump mod.
The prepump mod is just the elimination of air leaks and a filter.
In-tank is the removal of the mixing chamber.
Put Lift-pump in your subject you may get better responses.
good luck.

I will try and answer your questions as I read them first, no it won't affect your emissions so your good on that, if it changes your fuel economy it will be improved, I went with a 75 micron inline filter that is stainless mesh type that can be cleaned and mine is a system one filter little pricey but just clean it and keep going. and Lastly on the prepump, pump mod I believe cookie went with a carter 72gph pump, I personally went with a holley red pump that is 97gph both will work probably equally as well and neither one is too expensive. Yes you put them inline on the frame, and the best place for the prepump is as close to the tank as you can get it. And lastly both me and cookie put the filter between the 2 pumps so it's after the low preasure prepump, and before the main high preasure factory pump.
Also as a note I did away with the factory hard fuel line one it's too small 5/16" and the hose you have to use on both the pump and tank fitting is 3/8" so it's a loose fit, and secondly by putting in one line like that does away with a couple of possible leak locations, and thirdly it makes it much easier for installing the prepump, and filter. Just be sure to use diesel rated or Fuel injection rated hose for this application.

Not that I know of for the lift pump pre-pump. What fun is a kit? I'm currently awaiting that stupid Fed-ex guy to bring my items from JEGs. Rather have brown deliver it cause they come earlier. I've spent the better part of the last week wiping out hardware and auto parts store's fittings section in the sizes I needed. Don't think you necessarily need injection hose in front of the stock pump, it's pricey and at 3/8 even more so. On a side note, after much ado, Autozone had the cheapest ($3.49/ft) 5/16 injection 30R9 hose made by Goodyear. Cheaper by quite a margin over all those other ones, Carquest was the highest at $9 plus. Napa had none in stock. Just some thoughts if you consider fabbing your system. A call or two can save quite a bit.

Actually, I am looking for a pre-pump mod kit which I understand is the hutch mod kit. I'd rather not make 10 trips to the parts store and keep the truck running instead of having it down for a couple weeks while I scrounge parts. It is needed every Thursday for deliverys so leaving it down for a couple of weeks is not an option.

Ouch!!! My truck is not down either. Just trying to put something a little different together. I have all of the parts and then some just in case as of today, before I start. Now I have no problem with one stop shop. I was trying to pull up the link to add for you, but DI site is down. Just go to dieselinnovations web site and you will find what you are looking for. Good luck.
On Edit: Better yet Diesel Manor has this

Link to the instructions on Diesel Manor's site seems to work fine still: http://www.dieselmanor.com/docs/InTankKit-rev1.2.PDF

I think you're correct that they don't actually sell that kit anymore, though.

Talked to diesel Manor and they said they didn't sell enough of them to make it worth their while so they discontinued it. Any other sources?

Yeah, try here. DI seems to be up tonight. About 3/4 way down. It's really pretty simple stuff, (if you wanted to buy it yourself, I'm doing something a little different) and yes my truck is now down because I got off to a late start but it will be back up tomorrow. Be sure to check my latest thread for a tip on how to get the tank empty and have fuel on hand when you're done. Good luck.
