Headlight switch

I hate to say this but I have a Ch^#y headlight switch in my 56. I'm replacing it and I found a new switch but I'm having a problem get the rod that goes into the switch to work. It won't engage anything inside the switch so I can pull out the switch to turn on the lights. Anyone have any ideas

Are you depressing the spring loaded button on the underside of the switch while pushing the rod in, that button locks the rod in place. If you are try spraying some WD-40 and install it again

What he said. Every brand of switch I have seen has the spring. Ford or Ch**y. If its not pushed when the rod goes in, it won't enguage.

Make sure that the length and diameter of the rod you want to use matches the rod that came with the switch originally. They are not of universal length and diameter. The rod you are using may be too short or the diameter to large to lock in place. I've been down this road before...
