Performace mufflers
I have a '72 F100 i am installing a 85 302 in it and i want to install a performance exahust exahust system. Can anyone give sugestions on brands of mufflers.

Depends on how loud you want...there is the old standby..glasspacks, or flowmasters, dynamax...etc

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Oct-02 AT 00:52 AM (EST)]I used Hooker Maxflows (http://www.holley.com) which are the most free flowing muffler you can buy. They are really quiet at idle, but are extremely powerful at WOT.

Well, we know all about the famous 5.0 mustang/flowmaster 40 series combo. That always seemed like a good, proven way to go. If you want to go cheap, grab some summit turbos. They flow really well but they're pretty quiet. I've heard good things about hooker aerochambers also. All these mufflers can be had from summit racing.

I've used Cherry Bombs for about 20 years; never got a ticket from the good ole Georgia State Patrol, but then I've never downshifted right next to them either. They've got a tone that'll let people know you mean business. I've got the 48" Cherry Bombs underneath harrison...sounds great - will post a wav file of him on my site pretty soon....

I have Flowtech headers feeding into 2 1/4" Midas turbo mufflers (left over from previous dual exhaust)...they are way too quiet. They seem to get quieter the more I put my foot into it!? Next time I'll go with Flowmasters I think.

I too have used the summit racing turbo mufflers. They sound good without being irritating. I hunt with mine, so i don't need the excessive sound.

PS. Unless you are building a racer, you don't need to go too wild with a 302. Most any dual exhaust over 2 1/4" would be adequate. Just my opinion.

Performace mufflers
I have a question about mufflers. I have a '96 Cobra that I installed a Borla XR-1 cat-back system on. I have the original mufflers and tailpipes that I removed from the Cobra with about 35,000 miles on it. Will these mufflers work on my '72 F250 with a 360? I am sure I could find someone willing to weld them into the exhaust. Also, what are the best headers to use on the 360? I would like to spend as little as possible.

Turtle, I have Thorley headers on my stroked 390 into 2 1/4" pipes then into a single 3" pipe. I used a heavy duty truck muffler for about $50.00 cheaper than the flowmaster but with all the same characteristics of one ie: flow and sound. I also used a high torque racing starter that is tucked away and shielded from the headers so I don't need to mess with the headers if a starter change out is neccessary.
