There was the FE 482 starlifter. Based on a custom .100 over 406 crossbolted block with a 4.3 billet steel crank. Pretty sure Holman Moody built. This was a prototype for the proposed 8 liter limit NASCAR and NHRA back in 62. Think it ran at the salt flats also for some high speed testing. NASCAR settled on 7 liters and the 482 project dropped. The 427 was developed and the rest history.

Monster, that 494 Can Am motor was the 385 series motor. There was a 492 that I was told used Ford FE parts by a old time Can Am racer I was talking with today. It would spin bearings and kick rods pushed too hard back then.
I saw an add where 429 Shotgun motors for $30K up to a complete 494 for $125K, a large sum.
