I have a 2000 Ranger with the 4.0L and 5 speed tranny. I noticed the other day that after sitting overnight, my upper radiator hose was collapsed together. I opened the radiator cap and it sucked in air and popped back open. Is this normal or do I need a new upper hose? With the engine running, it's fine. Thanks.
I would inspect the radiator cap to ensure that valve on the lower portion functions properly as well as inspect the coolant return line between the burp tank/radiator for pinching/restriction of some form. Also, look in your burp tanks and at the open end of the hose for any debris that could cause an intermittent clog/restriction.
is the hose showing signs of age? mabey its time for a new hose... i wouldnt exactly worry about it tho. if its sucked together it will open when the water pump starts pumping.
The check valve on the lower side of your radiator cap will open under virtually no pressure. The pressure (vacuum) required to collapse a radiator hose will far exceed this.
