Just picked up an 02 F250. Went to drain the water from the fuel filter this weekend. Attached a hose to drain tube but nothing came out. I turned key on but didn't start to see if I could force the drain open. Nothing. Do I need to start it?
Can someone explain what line off the filter is the drain? Hard to trace back to filter housing. Thinking about taking line off and blowing it out with air.
No need to start it. The filter should drain just by opening the valve. The clog is probably in the filter housing. Take the cap off and remove the filter to see if there is a build up in the bottom. Get a new filter and change it while you are at it. If its clogged it will need to be changed anyway.

You might have better luck by loosening the fuel filter lid and then trying to purge the water separator. That will release the vacuum and let it flow. Worked on mine anyways. Good Luck.
I did open the valve a number of times. Will change the filter and have a look inside. By the way, what type of wrench loosens that filter top? I have an Olds that has a oil filter cup that looks the same.
If you can find one of those sockets with the sorta "teeth" on it, it'll fit just right. Can't remember what they're for, but I've seen them. The teeth will fit in between the ridges on the cap. Diesel Manor or Innovations or some vendor makes a piece designed just for the fuel filter cap, that fits to a socket wrench. Most just use a couple wrenches/screw drivers and mickey mouse it open. Or, a rubber strap wrench, like for removing the oil filter.

That line is right under the valve itself if memory serves. Runs partway down the passenger side of the front of the block. Careful with that lid, it's pricey for what it is. I just use a huge set of channeloks. If you elect to crack the lid seal in order to check the drain, don't have the key on or engine running or you will have some cleanup on you hands. Good luck.
Well, like a bid dummy...when I changed my filter, I got the kind with the lid already installed, and pitched my old filter. I don't even know if it came off or was a permenent part of the filter, but anyway, insted of paying $16.49 does anyone know where I might find another lid? Fleet filters is the one that wants the $16.49...Thanks, Dave
