surging when taking off

99 F-350 CC DRW 2WD When taking off from a dead stop and stomping on the pedal it sounds like it just want's to die but after about a second or 2 it kicks back up. Does anyone have any idea what it might be please help? Also the fuel filter has been changed after this started up.

Redrock Is your truck year correct if so you need to go to Powerstroke Forum. Surging is usually a fuel-fuel/air problem.

Sounds like air getting into the fuel system someplace. Yours isn't old enough to have air getting in via cracked return lines

Could be a CPS going out. A search on CPS will yield billions of pages of reading. $90 part, takes 15 mins to change out. CPS stands for Cam Position Sensor.

Does the surging just when it is cold..? If so, maybe your oil to the injectors is too thick or the oil needs changing.. Mine surged every time when cold if you try and drive too soon.. I changed to Shell synethic oil about 4 months ago and surging has completely disappeared.

It feels like it wants to die when I get into the pedal then it just kicks up and goes but that is only from a dead start. It does it either cold or warm. Was woundering if the CPS would cause this or not. The oil was just changed about 3500 mi ago have been using the same oil AMZOIL and this is the first problem.
