Anyone using programmer with Sonnax/Tricumulator?

I've been using the Diablo programmer on my truck for awhile, with the trans setting on "Hard Shift". I recently installed the Sonnax valve and tricumulator springs, and reset the trans setting with the Diablo back to "stock shift". To be honest, I don't notice any difference from the stock valve and springs with the programmer on hard shift, versus the sonnax/tricumulator and the programmer on stock shift.. Should I set the programmer to hard shift again? Will this cause any problems, or extend the weak 4R100 trans life?

Thanks for any suggestions..

The manufacturers of both products say not to. Both control line pressure, too much will cause problems. I'm sure somebody with specific info will chime in.........

Question for you- When I installed my Sonnax kit, it firmed up every shift except for 2nd to 3rd-did you experience the same thing? I like the firmer shifts, but that 2nd to 3rd seems the same. Just wondering if you had the same experience-

the one thing that is not effected too much by the sonnax kit is the torque converter lockup.... that will actually feel a bit soft... that is because your other shifts are much firmer the t/c clutch locking up seems soft by comparison.... sadly, the shift kit is just showing you how "soft" the stock t/c really is... i have tried to learn when the t/c is going to lockup so i can back out of the throttle a little and kind of take it easy on the t/c clutch...

i wouldnt recommend the programmer on hard shift while using the sonnax. this increases line pressure too much in the trans and will cause problems. a buddy of mine had the sonnax kit since the truck was new and as soon as he changed chips to one that increased line pressure his trans went in two weeks and the truck only had 80k on it. he did tow a lot with it but i think the chip pushed it over the edge

Good call! If you can swing it a triple disk billit converter is the way to go. The "slop" will be gone.

[sadly, the shift kit is just showing you how "soft" the stock t/c really is]

That is the t/c lockup? That is sad, do these engineers really have a degree? What is the best way to fix that? Get a whole tranny I suppose.

There is a clutch in the converter that "locks" the input to the output. Raising the line pressure is all you can do to help out the weak single-disk stock clutch, and the only way I know to do that is to use a programmer. The other option is to use a triple-disk "billit" converver which has like the name implies 3 times the amount of clutch area.

So with a programmer, can I increase the line pressure just to the T/C, as I already have the Sonnax kit installed? I have heard I should not use these together.

no, it will raise the pressure, period. Everywhere for all parts.

I remeber reading somewhere that it is better to raise the shift pressure mechanically then electrically...

Agreed. In a perfect world use a shift kit and a billit converter.

I have a BTS valve body. It's much better than Sonnax kit and with a DP Tuner chip the shifts and tc lockup are far superior to stock. A new tc would be the best way to go, but the valve body really helps. The BTS costs about $225 plus core, very well worth the money.

Hi fellas,
I have a question regarding the shift settings on the predator tuner. I have never switched mine from stock as I have no idea what changes if I was to switch to a different setting. Would I be increasing line pressure as I switch to firmer shift settings? My tranny seems mushy and gets hot. Will a firmer shift setting help with this? Can I hurt the tranny by firming up the shift settings? I don't have an aftermarket cooler (in the process of getting one now) or a Sonnax kit installed. Any help would be appreciated.
