Hi I am looking at installing a new carb and intake maifold on my 1970 F100 (302) Anybody got any sugesstions? I have also heard that a four barrel can be more efficient than a two barrel. Fact or fiction?
I'm going to do exactly the same thing. I've got a line on a factory four barrel manifold and if I use a factory 4 bbl then I should be able to use the same air cleaner assembly. My 302-2v is such a dog!

If you plan on buying ~$500 worth of nice new products, you'll probably NEVER recoup your investment merely in gas savings. Not trying to dissuade you from doing it (I’ve got a Performer RPM and Edelbrock 600 CFM on my truck), just want you to know the facts.

It's not about "recouping" your investment in the future, it's about lowereing your fuel bill RIGHT NOW.
I don't think this is the only factor considered when doing the conversion, at least it wasn't for me. It was definately the increase in power, which others may think it's not much with a cast iron four barrel intake, but when you are used to a stock 360 and a 2v Autolite, it is a considerable boost in power.
I wasn't sure about doing the swap until I finally priced the intake and carb- Intake was $35 at a wrecking yard, and Holley 600 CFM w/ vacuum secondaries for $200- you can't beat that very often.
So for those trying to decide for themselves, there is an increase in power- sure. But for me, knowing that I wouldn't be using any more fuel than the stock 2v is what put me over the top.
airflow is the name of the game -- that 2v can dribble as much gas into the engine as a 4v, but can't supply the airflow to make sure it is properly burned. Now the fuel savings is valid with a 600cfm elec choke edelbrock, but put a dual feed dominator on it (can you say overkill times ten?) and thats a different story!
