I have a line on a '79 LTD with a 302 and C6 tranny. I have heard there are two types of bell housings for the C6. Small block and Big block. Currently the truck has a 360 with C6. It is a 1968 F100. Will the '79 302 bolt right up to my existing tranny or will I need to swap the whole thing out. I am also worried about gearing in the '79 tranny, will it be the same as my 68?
fisherman, There are three bells instead of two. The FE (360) uses a round top which is different from the other two. "No" The 302 will not bolt up. There are some first gear differences in auto trannys but the hi gear ratio is still 1 to 1. The real gearing changes are in the rear end. hope this helps
