convert 54 f100 to Front disc brakes
Hey guys, what's the easiest and cheapest way to convert my 54 to front disc brakes? Do I need to switch to a firewall mounted booster and master cylinder to convert this? I'm putting a carburated 91 5.0 roller motor in this and want it to whoa when I want it to.
Thanks

front disc brakes
I used the Disc brake kit from Classic Performance, is uses G.M. truck calipers and Ford F-150 rotors. The kit is almost a bolt-in kit using the stock I-beam axel & spindles. There are a few other vendors selling a similar kit.
With any kit for disc brakes you will need to replace the master cylinder to suit the disc/drum combination and to gain the safety from a dual reservoir.
You can go manual or power brakes, either under the floor or on the firewall.
A new manual master cylinder under the floor would probably be the easiest and cheapest. You will need to add a proportioning valve and residual valves to the master cylinder and new plumbing to make these pieces fit. Chances are the brake lines and fittings need work by now , if they are old or original.

The setup came on the truck when I bought it. The front disks use Chevy hubs rotors and calipers so the bolt pattern is Chevy in front, Ford in the rear. I'm not sure yet which I'll modify to make them the same so I only need 1 spare. The underbody MC setup is a recently installed purchased conversion with dual chamber MC. It looks brand new. The truck came from NM so it never saw weather. I didn't much care for the fact the clutch had a hanging pedal with firewall mounted MC and the brake was thru the floor, nor how hacked up the firewall was from the clutch conversion and my wife didn't like the unboosted brakes so I smoothed the firewall, put in a new set of Camaro hanging pedals with a SS dual diaphram booster, Camaro brake MC and hydraulic clutch setup. I am not removing the whole disk setup, just the underfloor MC, mount and pedal linkage.
