drive shaft

i have a 1970 ford f-100 short bed that had a 300ci 6cyl and a c-4 tranny, im putting a 1978 400ci v8 with a c-6 tranny in it that was a long bed need to find a drive shaft,short beds are hard to find in junk yards around here, any one know the length of the drive shaft for
a78 short bed so i can get one made or is there any other ford that mite have the shaft i need . i have the 78 doner truck so if i need to adapt any parts i can just need help on the length

grab a tape measure, measure from the tail of the tranny to the yoke on the rear end. subtract 2.5 inches, and hit the junk yards. 65-72 are definetly the same, if some one has changed to a later model tranny. a lot of cars will have the right shaft in them. usually 4 door cars had a shaft that will work.try to stay in the mid60s-mid70s. galaxie, ltd and the like. a lot of yards have driveshaft piles, go thru it and see what you can find. one more thing, and it is hard to say, check the chevys also. they used the same joint as ford in the earlies.

If you already have a long-bed drive shaft, you could take it to a driveline shop and they will shorten it for you if you can't find one in the junk yards. Much easier and cheaper to shorten one than lengthen, so measure twice, cut once!
