My 89 F350 4x4 has a clatter coming from underneath. I don't believe it is the transmission (it is a 5 speed manual, Z7 I think) but it quits whenever I put the clutch in. It was there when I bought the truck a year ago and have driven from AK to the east coast and half way back again and hasn't been a problem but it is more pronounced and am wondering if I need to look into it befor a major problem. Someone mentioned transfer case does that sound right if so what does that entail. Thanks for any help.
the car diealership when i bought it had it all installed. then we noticed the clatter at the dealership and they had everythgin checked out and they said they couldn't find anything wrong...
Got the throw out bearing replaced and that was only part of my problem. The clatter is still there ,although not quite as pronounced. It is caused by a wornout flywheel. A new dual mass flywheel runs $1300 so is there anywhere I can find a used one in good shape?
have you tried lightly holding on the brake while the clunking occurs and see if it stops.
I just had to fix the clanky calipers on the front end yesterday again.
I also had a noise from my clutch about a year ago because the flywheel springs broke and got caught in the dust cover. a new clutch fixed that.
