Gator, is there a heat exchanger on the waste oil furnace? Reason I ask is that I've heard that there are toxic metals in waste oil. I already spend too much time in contact with heavy metals and such to want to add them to the air.
I can't remember the brand but we have this space heater called a "Big-Buddy". Runs on two of those small Coleman propane cylinders (like used in those little camp stoves). Puts out quite a bit of heat. Its good as long as you have some ventilation, has a built in fan that you can turn on or off. It says it's safe for indoor use, but I can tell you from experience, the room quickly fills with gas and I wouldn't recomend it.
I had the same thought...95 cents! Then I noticed that post was from 2002.
I like LP for heat, I have a hanging furnace in my shop. I used to have a 82 Gal pick up truck motor fuel tank but finally hooked it up to my house tank for convience.
My brother had a cheap set up in his last house, he bought a small take out electric furnace, stuck it in one corner with a deflector/duct and he had instant heat. He had a large 2 car so you only had to run it for a couple minutes and it was warm. All it took was 220 power and 50 or 75 bucks.
Sometimes you can find old used furnaces at garage sales or at construction sites. Just have them checked over good and set up right to operate safely.
