I recently had a problem with torque converter "shudder" Folks, it ain't the converter that does it. It's the control solenoid, valve or whatever controls it. I added a bottle of Lucas Transmission treatment a month or so ago. The shudder stopped immediately. I just completed an 1800 mile trip to see my son's graduation from Marine Corp boot camp in my 95 E150 Van that had the shudder. ZERO problems the whole way. Matter of fact, my fuel mileage was the best ever since it was new. 15-16 mpg I've also added the Lcas treatment to the 35+year old C-6 in my 68 Merc Monterey. It's also nearly shifting back to normal after just a few laps around the block. This car has 62,000 miles on it and the trans has never been rebuilt, oil was changed once since I've had it. It's had sticcky shifts since I bought the car, but the Lucas stuff helped it out almost immediately. If it was registered and insured, I could get it out on the open road and get it back to normal with the Lucas Treatment. Good stuff.

I am having the "shudder" problem in my 99 F150. If I change the torque convertor will it make the problem go away? Also with the shudder that you were experiencing did you feel like you had lost a little bit of the power when excellerating? My truck still goes. I just feel as if there is not much get up an go.
If it's the control valve that's the problem, all it will cost you is the $10 bottle of Lucas Trans. treatment. You do NOT have to do anything with the converter. Just add the bottle and see what happens. I lost no power, just had the "rumble strip" noise when the control valve was sticking.
your theory is not always right i have a 94 e4od and the dr and lucas could not fix the shudder i found out on another post that if it is to far gone the convertor is the problem just by a simple test of while driving and in shudder mod hold foot on accellerator and tap the brake just enough to turn on the lights the shudder will stop periodically

But it only cost's $10 to find out, vs $1500+ to rebuild.
