I am assuming you have the factory plug between the duraspark box and the distributor, so plug that in.

Find the wire that is red coming out of the duraspark box, and hook it to 12 volt +. Make sure you have the coil hooked up to the duraspark box wiring, and have 12 + on the + side of the coil.

Make sure you ground the engine with the battery negative. The system gets it's ground from the dist body over to the dursapark box.

You can run the engine for a minute or two, but if you want to run it for a long period of time, go to the store and get a white ceramic resistor for a Chrysler product and put it inline with the coil + wire, so the box and the coil do not overheat.

Here's a diagram.

yes all the wires for the dura spark are connected to the right cnnections the only two that are not connected are the red and white ones . i do not have an ignition switch hooked up yet . what i was wondering is there a way to run jump wires to make the necessary connections for a temporary set up . if necessary i think i have an older style distributor (points etc ) if i can't do the dura spark style as a temp . all i am trying to do is get the engine to run too hear what it sounds like before i go any further in the project . thanks for the input . also can you refresh my memory as to the right way to hot wire the starting system for the older style distributor just in case i need to go in that direction .

Just hook the red wire up to bat +, and make sure you have power on the + coil. You do not need the white wire for a test run. All it does is retard the timing while the engine is cranking to make the engine easier to turn.

If you want to hotwire the old points system, it just needs power on the coil +. The same resistor thing applies to it too though. Run it for a few minutes, but without a resistor, the coil may get hot and the points will not last very long.
