cylinder hone

to do just a standard re-ring is a 220 grit stone good to use in the cylinder hone or is 220 to rough? i am using cast rings, not moly.

220 will be fine i use 160 for cast rings but 220 should do the job just fine. i assume you go the 3 finger hone? if so use lots of oil and make full up and down movements make sure the hone is adjusted to the right tension and the drill is able to turn it 900-1100 rpms. do about 20 full movements in each bore.

which style hone is better, three finger or the abrasive ball style?

ball style is best but will run you 200+ to buy one a 3 finger runs about 30.00

I like the paralell stones best. They will reveal an imperfection where the ball style will hide them.
