anyone installed hydroboost on an f-250?

hydroboost uses the power steering pump to power the brakes. I think Ivan has done the swap. Do a search in the axle and the off road forum.

hydroboost

I have installed a hydroboost on my 79 f250 crew cab. I also installed rear disc brakes. The setup works great! I did not have to adj. my prop. valve.

hod do you do the hydro boost ive never heard of anything like that, does it involde in removing the powersteering luxury to enhance braking power???

it replaces your vacuum brake booster with an power steering fluid actuated one. It taps into the return line of the power steering pump. It does take away your power steering.

I don't know if Jim meant this just as it is written or it came across wrong or I just misread but I'd like to clarify that you still have power steering with hydroboost. The pressure line from your PS pump feeds into the hydrobooster and then it has 2 lines that come out of it, a high pressure which then goes to your steering box (so you still have power steering) and a low pressure return that goes back to the resevoir or pump. The brake booster functions on very little volume, mostly just pressure so it doesn't take away from the power steering. I run a hydrobooster, hydro assist cylinder and a steering box off my pump, works great.

The advantages for me were:

1. The hydrobooster provides a lot more pressure making it much easier to stop 44's.
2. The diameter of the hydrobooster is far smaller than the vacuum booster so it'll clear my valve covers.
3. My engine barely pulls any vacuum as is, so it was tough to get anything out of the vac booster.

Never done a hydroboost on a ford, put a couple of them on chevies that didn't come with them and a friend has one on his early bronco for the same reason of having no vacuum. They work like a champ and beat the heck out of a vacuum booster. Completely changes the pedal feel and effort required to stop a big truck. They do however make for a jungle of hydraulic lines and the units are not cheap to rebuild, but they are easy to find in good used shape.

They are great for turbocharged applications too.

i've done the same swap as ivan and as he said it is way better than vacume and you can slide 44's on the road
