I am running an electric fuel pump on my truck, and it works quite nicely. Sure is nice to just turn on the pump, and clear any air out of the filter at changes, or on the occasion I run it out of fuel... it needs to be mounted as close to the tank as possible, I have mine right by the tank switch.

Thumbs up

Fellro, great idea, never would of thought of running an electic pump to clear up any air in the lines...my 86 fuel gauges dont work and I have run out of fuel in the past.

yeah, my rear guage is off right now, and the front is an approximation... having the electric pump has saved my behind more than once.

I've never had good luck putting aftermarket electric fuel pumps in vehicles that were stock mechanical, they overheat and fail all to often and some don't deliver enough fuel. That being said though, it's been really tempting to try one in the diesel for the very reasons Fellro mentions above.

I decided to make sure I had a quality unit, so I went with a Holley red. Haven't noticed any heating problems, and certainly no lack of flow. It's been there ofr over a year now. I know of others doing the same, many using the same pump, others using less quality pumps, but all are still going with them.

facet

I have a small Facet electric pump (mechanical pump is off) and it works great! Like fellro56 sais,it's nice on filter changes or when you need to prime the fuel system after maintenance!

Im installing a facet tomorrow, where do u guys wire it into? Im thinking about the ignition wire, but im wondering about it running while I wait for the glow plugs, is that a concern? Also is it ok to cut off the arm on the mechanical and just run the fuel through the old pump? sometimes my good ideas dont turn out so good so im a little paranoid

Read the thread "fuel pump on 86 f-250 4x4".
Get rid of the stock pump completely.
