I was wondering what other's with trucks similar to mine are getting for MPG? I have a 96 SuperCab 4x4 XLT, 5.0/4R70W with 3.55 gears and a towing package. I'm getting about 16MPG (13.08 to a US gallon). My driving is a mix of city, freeway and country roads. The average speed would be about 45mph I would think. I could get 13MPG (10.82 to a US gallon) from my 88 F150, 2wd with a EFI 5.0/C6 combo, 3.08 gears. I know my 96 is heavier but it also has OD. I've changed the plugs (Autolites), wires (Ford Racing 9mm) and air filter to a K/N cone type and tt's got 235/75/15 Goodyear Wranglers on it.
On the last dual tank fillup it took $108CDN, at $1.109 per liter and I had driven 550KM. Most of it was on country roads with speeds about 45mph.
Thats about right. I get around 15 or so with virtually the same setup. The only difference is I have 32 11.50 15 BFG ATs. and mine is a reg cab long bed.
My 1992 F150 SuperCab 5.8L E4OD 4x4 gets somewhere around 12 mpg, for overall driving, city and highway/freeway. I was told when I got it that it gets about 14 mpg. I think the guy was a little bit of an optimist, or all of his driving was on the highway/freeway.
i saw 18.5 mpg once when i first got my 93 f150 5.0 extended cab 4x4 auto with a flat lid on the back riding empty on a 300 mile run at 60-65 mph. I have never duplicated it. i have since added headers 3 inch exhaust, explorer cam, o/h heads, and a k+n and now it gets maybe 16 and spark knocks on anything less than 93 octane or if i'm pulling anything. I'm planing on getting a custom chip burned on a chassis dyno to help cure my engine runnning problems and hopefully get back some gasmileage.
I'm going to be adding 1.7 roller rockers, ported E7 heads, headers and a single 3" exhaust to the truck over the next year. I've got a 1994 roller 5.0 HO in my 63 Mercury that's getting new heads so those heads are ear marked for the truck - they have been miidly ported and have 1.7 rr's. I've got some ported DOOE 70 351W heads for the 63. I've got to got a car trailer with this truck once I get my drag car up and running so it needs a little more grunt. It won't see a lot of towing duty, but it would be nice to see it get over the road a little stronger.
My Bronco with 302 and AOD (probably relatively similar weight) gets just under 14mpg (US) with mostly city and country road driving, and almost always babying it.
When I do get on the freeway, it's up around 17-17.5.
I have a 1996 F150 XLT, 5.0 V8, 3.55 diff, auto, regular cab long bed, with 31" tires..........get 15 mpg 9 out of 10 times I fill up with mixed driving. Took a 500 mile trip last week and got a shade over 19 mpg. Putting 4.10 gears in it tomorrow so should see a little worse running empty and better mpg loaded or towing.
93 F350 crewcab, 6997 weight, 351/ZF, 13-14mpg (us) unloaded, have gotten 15 mpg for extended time depending on my driving habit, have gotten as low as 7mpg while loaded to the hilt. But my girl has about 390K on her
Mine can only get better, the truck needs an alignment for starters so that should help. I also have a bit of a lead foot so that ain't helping...LOL....The truck needs more grunt so I guess I'll have to forget about MPG when I start "tinkering"..
