the 352 was not a option for your truck the 352 was last used in 67 but possible for one to be swapped in. unless you are seeing the 352 mark on the block and assuming its a 352 in which case the 352 is just a casting mark on FE engines. the 351 will not bolt up to anything you have in there and will require a lot of work.

thanks very much for the reply ford390gashog. is it that the bellhousing wont accept the 351m or the motor mounts or both? and do you know of a quick way of identifying the engine in this truck, other than measuring the stroke?

thanks again

I would start a thread in the FE forum about engine size. They will be your best bet and maybe Matt could move this one to the 73-79 forum so you will get some more help.

The bellhousing needs to be changed along with the perches and motormounts. you will aslo need a new radiator and all front acc. the 351m swap is a backwards swap. you will have a lot less power than you had with the FE the m is a smog dog in stock forum and not worth the hassle.

thanks 4 the advice. i now have a direction. the unknown engine in the truck is getting coolant in the oil and has a baddly leaking rear seal but maybe i should go that route anyway. easier than fighting with the smog dog. i appreciate the response.
