Hope some one here can help me. I am at my wits end,
Have a 2002 7.3 F350 speed, has been a great truck for Xmas my hubby bought me a Auto Start ,
Wanted one forever now wish I never heard of the blasted things. I guess careful for what you wish for holds true here.
Hubby had it installed by Future Shop as this is what a local Ford dealer suggested as they do more instalations than their guys do.
I now seem to have a battery drain of 4.5 to 5.5 amps.
We have pulled ever fuse from the box checked out the started, altenator, battery posts and the wiring harness.
Thought I had it narrowed down as the air bag light is flashing when you start and wont go out, "was told by the Pros that installed it" the copmputer just needs to be reset
"Horse Pucky" on that one, had a code reader put on and it says B1884 Passenger Air Bag Deactivated warning lamp circut failure. Have a new Module will try to install it this weekend if not have a Tuesday appointment at Ford.
If any one has any ideas I sure could use them hopefully before I have to hand over my first and second born to have Ford fix it. Also they used Directwire.ca wiring diagrams to install it.
Thanks

4-5amp drain is considerable! Sounds like they put in a bad unit or wired it wrong.Maybe a new employee with his head up his wazoo!!?? I would put an ammeter inline on the hot wire to check current drain. If this happened AFTER the install then the installer screwed up.
Did you pull the fuses out in the fuse box under the hood? That is probably where they tied in. I am curious how glowplugs, cold weather, diesels and remote starts work together.
I also have a remote start and it works great maybe the one you have isnt for a diesel you have to get a different something for it to work with the diesel
So far the last 3 vehicles I have owned have had remote start.....when its 105 outside, its nice to climb in a nice cold truck...and when its 35, its nice to jump into a nice warm truck....now if I could only get it to turn on my heated seats!! It was a challange for sure. The guys at short circuit city got everything installed in about 6 hours and the delay timer sizzled, so I had to wait another week to get the new delay timer and it rocks!! The glow plug light goes out in aobut 8 seconds, and the timer starts the start sequence about 3-5 seconds later and zippy do dahhhhh...........making smoke (So to speek) Check into the remote starts...you will be glad ya did!!
I have a remote start and love it.I dont think i will go with out one any more.Maybe one of the relays in the brain is stuck on.Just pull the 1 or 2 fuses under the dash.If it is the remote start, then there will be no more drain on the batts.
I have a remote start and love it! It has a 30 second delay for cold starts. In extreme cold i cycle the starter a few times for better starting.

Did the installer wire the remote start for when the "wait to start" light goes off? I know on most of the remote start "modules" or alarms that there must be a diode in line on the wire so that it does not draw power all of the time, If it was wired for the light and not a timer. If you have a timer then I am completly wrong and I don't think that what I am talking about will draw 4-5 amps of power. It seems like they have something wired wrong or the spliced a wire they souldn't have. Just my .02
I know that the wait to start does cycle but how they installed not sure will take a look, we did check all the fuses under the dash, then went back to the idot pro's and had then pull the installed fuses still draining power I was to9ld there were two fuses but they only found and unplugged one.
Will check to see If we can find the diode.
Thanks Lil
That Ulltra Start 2 sounds like a winner......where did you find it, and how difficult was installation? Thanks, Dave
I went down to the local radio install shop and they put it in for me.Around 400 to 500 hundred, depending on if you want the alarm. The thing can even rool your windows down or up any time you want it to,right from the remote.

Normally the fuses are under the dash in there own little holder.
