Hopped up straight six??
I just acquired a 1965 F100 and am STOKED on it. It is in awesome condition. Original paint and not a scratch on it! The only thing that would be better is if it had a V8 instead of the straight six. It has a stock 300 with a 1b carb right now. The #s match and it runs good (~70k mi) so for obvious reasons it would be nice if I kept it in. I know I'll never get that V8 feeling but I have heard that you can get some satisfaction out of a straight six with the right mods. Has anyone had any experience trying to hot rod one of these? Any opinions on what I give up by dumping the original engine and just dropping a nice new pre-built 302 in it?

Yes, the I-6 can be made to be every bit as impressive as a reasonably built 302. The stuff available (cam, headers, intake) actually do work, and I've heard from some owners with impressive HP numbers.
