Hook the pulling chain as short as possible, maybe 8 feet. When the pull off starts, the angle of the chain will be lifting the rear end of the chevy and the chevy will be losing some traction. When the pull off starts the angle of chain will put a little extra weight pulling down and thus a little bit more traction.
Make sure he doesn't have a posi-trac or then the pull off will not be equal.
Whatever you do, do not try to let up on the thottle or your truck might stall.
Put some octane booster and some premium gasoline and a new oil change in your truck prior to the pull off. Recheck the timing and re adjust the fuel / air mixture just to make sure your engine running properly. A few extra horses under the hood always makes things interesting.

I guess Im saying..If I tried to pull a parked car...Lets Say escort with my old 3.55/400ci/c6 with 35s..And I had 20lbs of air in my tires maybe even 30lbs....I wouldnt be able to spin the tires...It would have probably loaded up went nowhere and flooded it out..Thats why I think getting the tires to spin early is a possible edge...His truck will dig in and then its game on...Just my old POS combo though.....
Yes his truck will dig in and pull you backwards the first guy to start spinning his tires is the loser cause you just lost traction. I saw a vid once i think it was posted on here where two trucks were trying to pull each other as soon as one truck started spinning his tires he was going backward. So in all reality the guy that spins first loses first. Personally i wouldn't do it myself i don't have the money to fix my truck if something was to break.
He said dirt, I hope it happens. I think the ford will win. He has a little more lift and should lift the chevy to break traction. And Ford, well, lets face it, kicks ***.
There is no deffinitive answer to this question, there are just to many variables. If you both start spinning the tires it is anyones game.when you factor in,Driver skill, truck condition, traction,Gearing, weight distribution, tire size, tire compound, tire tread ect............... there is no way to tell the winner until you actually do it.
in our county we have truck tugs once a month when its warm so ive seen alot of them and a lifted truck never dose good dont get me wrong im hoping for the ford to your best bet is to hold the braks (that is if you got good breaks) untill the other guy stats wheal hoping then drop the cluch and drag him thats the only way im seeing your gona win this thing
Lets say you did this pull off and won because you used the brake trick,Now when you are bragging to your other buddies he can play the "Well he used his brakes" excuse so now where are you?,it leaves questions in everybodys mind.I would say you have a decent shot at this.First of all it's a Chevy small block,it's not like your in a pull off against a Dodge with a Cummins or Ford Super Duty with the Power Stroke.Being 4x4 you are a little heavier than him already so thats a good thing.Your drawback is the your height. You may be able to argue for a "Handicap" because of the height difference and ask if you can throw some weight in the bed of your truck to help it squat a little which will give you both a weight advantage and lower your center of gravity.Drop the tire pressure and see what quick and easily reversible mods to your engine timing and carb settings there are to help the engine to produce the results needed to develope a little more low end torque. You have to balance the torque vs traction issue. You do not under any circumstances want to break your tires loose and start spinning but if both trucks end up gripping better than you thought then your gonna need the low end power to pull him.I am no expert on this stuff and won't pretend to be but I will say this,Last year my Aunt asked me to go with her when she was toying with the idea of buying a Land Rover so I went along. If you know anything about Land Rover then you know they offer an off road course to customers. While on this course she was instructed to use second gear starting out under a load when traction was an issue and they explained (and demonstrated) how low gear can create wheel spin under low traction conditions so I would check into that before this pull off.If all else fails and you end up using the brake trick then I would suggest removing the fuse to your brake lights so he don't know you had to use the brakes at all.Good lluck!!
