Rubber flooring or Carpet

I am at the point that I'm about to do some interior work. As far as my flooring goes, I'm torn as whether to do carpet or the rubber flooring. I'm looking for a good fit. If anyone has pictures of their carpet or rubber mat, could you send me a picture and tell me what company you purchased it from. Of if you don't have a picture, just tell me if your satisfies with quality, fit etc. and tell me where you got your flooring. Thanks a lot. I just don't want to go through the hassels of getting something that's not what I wanted.

The floorpans are the same from 67-79. The trans tunnel height is different, though, depending on whether you have an automatic/three speed or the big four speed (or 4x4). I put a 79 Lariat carpet in my 68 with the heavy padding and it cut down road noise by about fifty percent. Sure is nice.

Rubber flooring or Carpet

I just wanted to restate my questions so that the first reply doesn't get this off on some other crazy thing. My questions are:

Have you installed new carpet or rubber flooring in your truck?

If so, do you like the way it fits? Does it seem quality, etc.?

Where did you buy it from?

Maybe that's a little clearer. Any help would be great. However, I feel I have a good grasp on high hump, low hump and technical stuff like that.

Thanks,
Greg

Rubber flooring or Carpet

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Oct-02 AT 10:30 AM (EST)]I purchased my carpet for my '67 from JCWhitney. It was inexpensive but well made. It fit rather well, and the padding underneath helps the road noise a TON!!!

I also bought a sound deadner kit from L^C Trucks, it doesnt look like much, but it is an acetate material that applies directly to the floor and eliminates cab harmonics a.k.a., road noise.

I also bought carpet by the yard from JCWhitey along with the aluminum faced sound deadner that they sell and custom made my own firewall shield. It looks GREAT!!!

All in all, it was money well spent. I paid about $170.00 for everything and it is nice. I wasn't as worried about looks at this point in time as one day, I plan on letting an upholstery shop re-do the entire interior, as I have found out, you are NEVER DONE working on these trucks...

Let me know if you want some more info.

Ken

Ken,
Did it seem like the carpet would fit under the bottom edge of the fire wall pad? I just want to make sure that it will fit up under my original insulation that happens to be in very good shape.

Thanks,
Greg

Yeah Greg...it sure did. I put my carpet in for a test fit, then removed it. It tucked under the edge of the firewall protector perfect.

Rubber flooring or Carpet

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Oct-02 AT 10:38 PM (EST)]Ken, thanks for the info. I'm getting ready to do mine as well, and looks like good 'ol JC Whitney may be the way to go. I'm also thinking about using the 'do-it-yourself' bedliner on the inside of the cab, prior to installing the carpet... on the floorpan and the cab wall behind the gas tank.

Hey! Post some pics if you can!

I bought the ~$120 rubber mat from one of the "big" restoration catalogs (initials AK). They advertise that it is an "exact" fit and replacement for the original mat. Let me tell you what a POS it turned out to be. The mat was WAY too large and trimming was nearly impossible due to thickness of the material. It was so inflexible that it was nearly impossible to install. Plus the final fit was/is horrible. I would have sent it back but they stipulated that the product is nonreturnable.

Rubber flooring or Carpet

I currently have the rubber floor mat in my truck and when I replace the interior I will probably get another.

You ask whether to go with carpeting or floor mat? If you don't plan on getting your truck dirty, using it for show or a Sunday driver, I would have to suggest getting carpet. It looks nicer, quiets the ride, etc. If you plan on using your truck for playing in the mud, work, heavy regular use, I would reccommend the rubber mat. I personally opt for the rubber mat since I keep my truck around for some off-roading, hauling stuff, bad weather... just the kind of things that would make a carpet impossible to keep clean. I personally prefer rubber mats over carpeting.. so much easier to keep clean since the flooring gets most of the abuse due to your own two feet! Thats just my two cents..

Rubber flooring or Carpet

Is this an OE rubber mat you have installed or is this a paint on bedliner type material? Would it make any sense to paint on a bedliner type material and install an OE rubber mat over it?
Thanks.
