2bbl carb Question

The carb for my '71 F250 with 390 has finally gone bad. I have rebuilt it a few times, and after the most recent rebuild, it seems to run no better. So I've decided to replace it (it was the factory original 2bbl). I would like to continue with the 2bbl set up, but am interested in getting opinions on various manufacturers for a replacement. So what do you all think? Edelbrock, Holley, or something else. I want something I can set and forget.

2bbl carb Question

If it were my truck needing a replacement two bbl carb, I'd look around for another Motorcraft unit. Pay close attention to where the throttle plate shaft runs through the base of the carb. This is where most wear takes place. Use the jets from your old carb, unless the new carb has the same sizes.

2bbl carb Question

The jets from the old card are one of the reasons I am replacing the unit. They are both shot. I did like the original Motocraft, it served me very well.

2bbl carb Question

I must be missing something here. How is it your old jets are shot? There aren't any moving parts associated with them. The only thing they do is allow a regulated amount of fuel from one location to another.
I suppose they could be mangled from using the wrong size screwdriver to remove or install them, but even that shouldn't alter thier flow charecteristics.
Anyway, no matter what shape your old carb is in, I'd still go find another Motorcraft unit to put on your truck. Darn dependable, and you already know how to rebuild them.

2bbl carb Question

My old carb died when I first got my truck. I went ahead and bought a 2 barrel holley and I haven't had any problems with it so far. I didn't see anything offered by Edelbrock at the time (otherwise I would have bought that). I've never had much luck with rebuilding carbs.. I prefferred saving the aggravation by buying a new carb. My truck ran like a dream when I bolted it on.

If the throttle shaft holes are worn, they can be bored out and a bushing installed. I like these carbs and their 4v big brother.
