burning up points
i have just rebilt my 1972 ford f100 (360) FE with an edelbrok proformer intake bord 30 over heads shaved 30 and crank turnd 10 with mallory dule point distributor holly lasor shot coil and holly 750cfm carb it keeps burning just one set of point at a time but other than that when the motor is reved it pops and back fires and i cant find out what it is if eny one can help it would be greatly aprecheated and sorry for the poor spelling

Also check and make sure the distributor is advancing. It's not uncommon for the vaccum pot to quit working. Check your timing with a light from idle to 3,000 rpm and see where it ends up. I have never seen a set of points last on a hot motor, I don't care what brand. Pertronix is the way to go my friend.

My money is on a bad ballist resistor. When they go bad you burn pionts and get carbod tracing in the cap. If these are your problems you can check this by checking voltage at coil whiel running. It should be around 7 volts not 12.
