Wiring Question???

Hello Guys.

I tried to search for the answer for this but with no luck. I have a 99 sd v10 (of course ) and i found what looks to me as it is a factory set of wires that are not connected to anything. They are found comming out of the harness on the drivers side right against the firewall? The only reason that i found them are because I am wiring up my brake controller for my camper and was not sure if these "extra" wires were a factory thing. They look like they are shrink wrapped or something to that effect. Any help will be great.

PS..... I have been waiting for the snow to melt so i can put my truck to the test and see how she pulls the 5000# travel trailer....from what i have read there should be no problems but i need to do it to be sure.....

THX

You will find wires like this all over the vehicle. Your truck may not have a particular
option, or may be in a state that has different emission laws, and does not have a solenoid or switch for that plug. Either way it's cheaper for the manufacter to make the same wiring harness for all of each model. For instance if you do not have fog lamps, the wiring is still there. And a 5000lb
trailer,no problem! I regularly pull up to 10K with no problem!

This thread may help you out. There are some accessory wires in the truck just for add-on type stuff. Check it out.

On your truck if you remove the cover under the steering wheel on the right hand side you will find a rectangular plastic plug. This plug is made for your brake controller. You can get the mating plug from Ford, U-Haul and most parts stores. This the easiest way to hook up a brake controller. The 4 colored wires you found under the hood will also be in this same area inside the cab.

They are put there for convenience to the owner in the event you need to run wire for lights or something else. Like mentioned above, you'll find the same set of wires inside under the dash just to the right of the steering column. Just splice into however many you need to use then make your connections to the same color wires out under the hood. Saves you the time and frustration of having to run them through the firewall yourself.
