Hey Guys, I Have A 2003 F-350 With The V10. It Has About 64,000 Miles On It And My Problem Is That It Seems To Have A Rough Idle When Sitting At Street Lights Or In The Driveway, It Weird, It Idles Ok For A Second The Goes Rough, Then Kinda Smooths Out, Kinda Like My 5.0 Mustang But That Has A Big *** Cam In It And Thats The Way It Runs. I Took It To A Local Ford Dealer Where I Bought It And The Ran All The Checks And Said It Was Ok. I Suggested That It Was The Plugs But They Said No, I Think They Are Jerking My Chain. Does Anyone Have This Problem, Just Wondering Because The Dealer Said To Me " Do You Realize You Own A V10", Like Im A Dumb *** Ya Know? The Truck Shouldnt Really Idle Any Differently Then Any Ohter Truck Ived Owned. I Owned A F-150 Before This And When The Idle Got Like That Id Change The Plugs And It Went Away. Let Me Know What You Think, Thanks Guys.
fuel filter, plugs are due even though ford states 100k thats a bs load. give the beast a tune up and clean the t.b out while your at it throw in a big bottle of techron for good messure
ps edit
do as above replace all the coil boots as thats most likely what causeing the miss any way they are cheap and easy while those coil packs are off changing the plugs.and you know the drill on changing them
yah art!
a lean missfire that size = mil on most of the time. 64k missfireing ? how were your plugs when you pulled them? had some bad boots?
mine only has 19 and the dealer found 3 of them bad along with the 2 tsb's one of which needs a new t.b. and tps. and reflash due to etc-trim valve of under 3.0 degs.
not every thing is simple but multi problemed at times. at 64k that beast needs a tuneup to start with. plugs, boots. air filter, fuel filter, fuel system cleaner, t.b cleaned, ck all hoses for leaks ect, ect, ect, just to start .
I have replace several IACs ( well just one or two the others I cleaned) later a mis and bad idle with no codes...found the dreaded elbow and had bought several of them. I replace a couple of the elbows first before the IAC and solved a few trucks rough idle that did not throw a CEL.... but honestly "we" did not seek a code so not sure if a slight leak on the vacuum side actually always throws a code or not
One of the main reasons I hate OBDII its not always fail safe or a true indication of where and what, just puts you sort of in the right area.
Codes can be stored ,but if the problem say is chked again within the drive cycle and shows okay no code, until its chked again in the next drive cycle and this senairo goes on untill it fails solid or meets a threshold that is stored in the pcm.
It could be the elbow, simple fix thats for sure
Thanks Fred
i have an 05 e450 that from new or a couple thousand miles has occasionally had a rough idle...sometimes it is as smooth as a babies but and other times if i rest my elbow on the door my hand will shake...it reminds me of my brothers v6 mustang that did the same thing and the engine was replaced...when i get time i am going to buy a real code reader to check for any codes and hopefully it can perform some diagnostic tests...if that doesnt work then i will start by replacing all the spark plugs and boots
