Remote Start

Greetings,
If this is the wrong forum to post in I apologize.

I have a 2005 F350 Powerstroke.

I am installing a DEI 561R, I am curious if anyone has used the blunt cut wire for the PTO RMP Sensor for the Tach sensor? If so, do I tap right into that wire or do I need a special part, inline resistor??

Thanks in advance if someone knows.

Very few people know about that wire, and I haven't heard of anyone using it for the tach hook-up. The easiest way to tell if the wire is usuable is to test it with a multi-meter. You probably already know this, but if you value your trucks electronics, don't use a probe light. Always a multi-meter to test. To test the wire, set the multi-meter to read AC. Attach the - probe to a chassis ground point, start the truck, and attach the + probe to the PTO RPM wire. If it's reading between 1-6 volts, only when the truck is running, it's good to use. I personally didn't even bother to hook-up the tach. wire for my 791xv and just turned tach. sensing OFF in the programming menu. I just couldn't find a reliable enough tach. source. Post back, let us know if it's usuable.

What would you use to dis-engae the starter. This is a diesel so I dont think I could depend on cranking time. I will check the wires to see what they read. I have a document showing what the blunt cut wires, upfitter wires and pass thru wire are. But I wasnt sure if this connection needed a resistor installed or not.

Thanks for the info. I am also trying to track down how I can get the door unlock feature to work like the factory key fob, one press unlocks driver, two presses unlocks all doors and of courses a horn chirp when locked.

After searching the net, I realize someone with talent should start a site dedicated to installing these things. I just didnt trust the local install shop to start hacking into my wires.... therefore I did it myself. But trying to get some of those tough to find answers is aggrevating to say the least. At any rate I will test the wire and post when I find a solution. Thanks for the response

The truck has a built-in anti-grind feature. Once the truck starts it automatically disengages the starter on its own.

I'm not sure about the 561R, but the 791xv has a seperate output channel that can be used with a relay to have the second press of the unlock button open the passenger doors. At least that's what I used. If the 561R doesn't have a channel that's specifically for something like that, use the trunk open output.

They did, The 12volt. Check-out the Car Security and Convenience forum.

Same place. They have an entire section devoted to explaining relays and how to use them. And another section specifically on how to use them with door locks. And if all you need is the wiring colors and locations for a 2005 Ford F-350, they can get you that to. The place is the FTE of auto electronics.

The viper alarm has anti-grind feature on it, the tach is green with a white tracer in a 5 wire harness held up by white tape behind the parking brake release.
