Traded for an 06 DRW CC Lariat 6.0 Auto Tow Boss/4.3 Tow Command with Moon Roof and long list of other options. Photo in gallery-
Toughest part was saying good bye to my faithful 03 6.0 with 79,000 miles... A great truck! But those incentives were just too much to pass up. Plus, I sold my boat earlier this month and bought another that weighs up to 14,000 lbs (triple axle trailer) and a dually seemed to be the logical choice- And what a ride it is with the 6.0Grinall the way!
I'm in the same boat as you. had an 03 and couldn't pass on the rebates. Checked out most of the dealers in Northern Utah and picked up a King Ranch two weeks ago. I went the long bed this time, but just couldn't bring myself to buy the dually. Maybe I should have, but I have to chase too often and it's hard enough to park any truck, let alone a dually.
Haha...it's not that hard really...I just take two or three spaces at a time.
Honestly, I've yet to see another KR Dually in my area, and only a few other KR Superduties...I think they are kinda rare. I know I had a hard time finding mine...
Pick up my new '06 KR Dually on Tuesday. This is my first truck with hips as well and will be nervous for a while. But really they are not any wider than the mirrors when they are extended. At least I was told that by someone. Either way it will sure tow the big 5'er a lot nicer.
It's actually not any wider than the mirrors in normal position.
Honestly, it's not *that* wide. Just relax and don't over-drive the truck. The only time you need to watch out is around tight corners...just swing them a bit wide and turn sharper.
If you're a good driver, it's cake. Also...just remember those "hips" are made of plastic, so they will scratch but not dent easily.
Thanks Dan, I am used to driving an '04 SRW long box crew cab. So I know all to well about swinging wide for corners. When I test drove a dually I was really impressed on how much smaller the turning circle is.
Hey thanks for all the great comments! Currently at 370 miles, averaging 14.4 mpg according to the overhead LOM. I'm a bit surprised how well the dually handles and sticks to the road on the tight corners going up the mountain this morning- I tried not to press it too hard and actually drove like a sane person
Congrats. The trucks in your gallery are both beautiful. I have the same color as your old truck. I love the Arizona Beige. Anyways, keep us informed on how this newer 6.0 holds up for you. I know you said that the last one had 76K miles of no problems. I hope you have a similar good time with the new one.
However, I've heard alot of stories on this 6.0 and it makes me hesitant to go out and buy one. So, let us know what happens further down the road. Congrats again and like I said, beautiful trucks.
