I am trying to decide what tires and wheels to put on my Bronco. 1968-289 cid, 3 speed, Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock AVS 4 BBL Offroad Carb, headers, magnaflow exhaust, WH 2 1/2" lift. Should I go with the 31 X 10.5 X 15, 31 X 12.5 X 15, or 33 X 12.5 X 15 Pro Comp Xterrains or some other tire. I'm also thinking about the Mickey Thompson Classic Lock wheels. Are the Pro Comps loud on the highway? I need a good offroad tire with good traction in mud, ruts, and snow; however, I sometimes will spend up to 10 hours driving to Idaho or Eastern Washington, so don't want a tire that will drive me crazy on the road with the noise. Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated.
I can't help a lot on the size, other than I run Swamper 33x14.5 and they are loud, but I trailer mine to the trails. As far as off-road tires that have descent road manners...You have chosen fairly wisely. A better choice might be the goodyear MT/R, but they are probably a bit more $$. If you're after better road manners, the BFG A/T is also good. If you have stock gears and don't want to change them, don't go with a 33" tire with that 3 spd, you'll have a hard time getting up to speed.

not totally true ! if you have 4.11 gears that combo with 33" tires will give you good hiway speeds and still let you wheel it.. now if you have like 3.50's than it will be pretty sluggish of the line decent on the highway not so good off-road
if your gears are stock than the only gears avail. for that year were:
3.50's
4.11's or
4.57's ...... some were LS and some were open diff... so if you ave 4.11 or 4.57 you still be ok
Yeah you are correct. I assumed he had 3.50 gears, which is probably the most common! If you have 4.10's or higher, you're lucky and you have a head start on most of us!
I have 37X16 XTerrains on procomp wheels. They are very nice on road for big tires. Off road they are ok not as good as Irock. If you do a lot of mud they are not the tires you may want boggers but they aren't that good on road. I have also had great luck with BFG mud terrains on and off road. The XTerrain and the BFG are the best duel use tires I have used.
I live and drive in Idaho and eastern washington and I run 33x12.50 bridgestone MT's traction is excellant in all types of terrain, but I have winter tires to run so I dont know about snow. They also run fairly quiet and the mileage so far has been more then great! Im driving a 68 halfcab 289 4.11 and 3 speed, let us know what you decide
Good luck
