Vibration

I have a vibration starting at 50mph. I only feel it when on the gas between 50 and 65mph. 65 and above i feel it regardless. My X is completely stock. It's more of a humming or ressonating sound that you can hear or feel through the whole truck. The tires have been balanced with no change. Any suggestions?

UPDATE! It's at the shop. Front tie rods replaced. U-joints replaced. Vibration much better but still there a little bit. What should we look at next? Any help appreciated.

bent rim. even if they the tires are perfectly balanced there will still be a vibration. just a thought if you hit any potholes.

Sounds like a rear tire is out of round, supposing that the balancing job is good.

I have this same problem (vibration) at 65 - 72 mph. Low frequency drumming.

My pet theory is that it is the last u-joint on drive shaft. My thinking is that the pinion angle may be too shallow or steep and is causing resonant vibration in the u-joint area.

Anyone with similar?

Switch your tires front to rear and see if it changes.

I had some stock Perili's scorpian's that did the same thing. I played with the tire presure and that took care of it. I beleive I ended up with 40-45 all the way around ?

Forest, I had this problem too. 2003 v10. Fixed by shimming the rear axle to lineup the rear u-joint. Also torqued wheel nuts to 155-165 ft lbs with a good torque wrench.
Vibration gone at least to 90 MPH - have gone faster.

Hey, thanks. I will probably need to do the same. Where did you get your shims?

I have snow tires on and I noticed an increasingly vibration/hum above 75-85 mph. I remember that the X ran smooth to the speed-limiter on the factory tires.

I used some flat 1/8 inch steel I had in my shop. Two pieces per side.

This is an old subject - if you use the "seach" function you will find a lot in this Forum.

Need more - just ask. Edit my previous Post " HAVE'NT GONE FASTER."
