'06 or '07???????

Want a 4wd, 4dr, diesel 250 Lariat in a bad way. Never owned one. Should I buy an '06 once '07's come out or buy the '07 and get the new diesel motor? Should the existing 6.0 motor scare me even though its been out since '03?

There is really no way to answer this question, as the answer is ultimately up to you.

I would not be scared of the 6.0L. There are a slew of posts from people that have problems with their 6.0L's, but that is very typical of any online community like FTE. I, personally, have been a member of the Dodge Dakota/Durango & Toyota Land Cruiser (FJ40 model, in particular) for several years, and their forums are the same way. People tend to be more than willing to start threads cussing the motor company, the dealership, their products/designs/etc. & anyone with any kind of association to any fo the above when they have a problem, but there aren't too many people that post about what a good experience they have had. It's just human nature, but it needs to be recognized.

Before I beat that horse any deader, I will just add that there are a couple threads regarding this community's overall satisfaction with their 6.0L's--both are in the 6.0L forum section a little further down the forum listing.

As for the '07, the new engine has some enticing features, but it will be new. None of us can say whether that will be a good thing or a bad thing at this point.

You will probably want to check out the '07-related post (**New pics of 2008 Superduty**) with pictures of the '07. (Yeah, the thread says 2008, but the report states that this is supposed to go live for the '07 model year.) Regardless of whether you like the new look or not, it will likely be a factor in your buying choice as well.

Lastly, price will undoubtedly play a part in this decision, and only time will tell how that will play out.

Sorry for the wishy-washy reply, but those are questions with no clear cut answers.

the o6-07 are the same truck. A couple new pkgs. for the 07. The new diesel won't be available to approx. Jan '07. That will most likely be an 08 model. I have an 05 6.0 with no problems to speak of. Greatest truck I have ever owned. Couldn't be happier. Most of the 6.0 issues were 03 and early 04's.

Thanks. Three things I wish someone could tell me (which I know they can't). 1) How much more will the '07 cost? 2) Will the new diesel motor have bugs its first year out? 3) Is there a real reason to fear the 6.0 diesel in an '06 truck?

The look of the 07 versus the 06 is evolutionary, but many people do not like the new light and grille set up. Any new motor may have bugs, and the new 6.4 probably will have one or two [hopefully minor]. The 6.0 is considered by many a tainted motor. It will never live down that reputation by those that do not like it.

You are gambling with an untested motor or buying a motor with a "reputation". I'd go with whatever truck you personally like. I'd lean to the 2006 model.

Rooster. I was going to wait until next year to get the new engine/truck. But just traded in my 2003 for a 2006. I have owned a 1991, 94, 97, 2000, 2003 and now 2006 Ford pickup. I've learned a few things over the years of buying trucks.

1st. There will be no rebate on the new truck and engine for some time after it's introduced. If past experience is any indication, I doubt you will see a rebate until the 2009 trucks start showing up. Then they will have rebates to clear out the 2008's. The 2006 trucks will be considerably cheaper. The $6000 in rebates I got In March, plus any price increase for inflation as well as new technolgy cost for the new engine will drive the cost of trucks up next year. Rumurs says the price increase will be substantal. If it's a $2000 increase plus the lack of rebates would make the the 2008 truck $8,000 more than a 2006.
Is driving the latest model worth that much more to you? Rumurs show the new engine at 350hp vs the 6.0L's 325hp. Is 25 hp worth $8000?

2nd. All new models have some bugs. Will they be as bad as the bugs the 2003 trucks had. Nobody knows. That said, I loved my 2003 6.0L truck. Even with it's problems. It was a better truck than my 2000 7.3L

3rd No reason to fear the 6.0L. Ford has been pretty tight lipped about what the new engine will be. But rumurs say they are trying to address some of the problems that plauged the 6.0L. Primarily low end power until the turbo spools up. Larger displacement and twin turbos are supposed to help boost low end power. My 2003 truck lacked a little power when heavily loaded at low end. Usually this was a problem for me when backing in a heavy trailer over rough terrain. i.e backing a trailer onto a construction job site or backing a horse trailer into a camping site in the mountains where I didn't want to be moving very fast, hence no rpms. All I had to do was shift into 4Lo and I had plenty of power to crawl in.

First, I'd determine if you can live with an '07. Personally, I have to look at any truck that I own, and while it might result in me losing some weight (which would make my wife and my doctor happy), puking every time I needed to hit the road just doesn't sound like a lot of fun. Thus, no 2007 F(ugly)-250 for me, I'll keep my 2005.

I'd buy an '06 6.0 way before buying a 1st-year 6.4.

Not to mention, the 07 models are ugly *******s. Copy/paste this link to see what I mean:

Wow, your right. If thats really a pic of the '07, yikes. They might have to charge less for the '07 than an '06.
