99 ranger 3.0 120,000 miles. after about a 100 mile trip when i got home I heard a gurgling sound under the hoop. the next day after warm up I had no heat for awhile it took a long time to heat up. I changed the thermostate and backflushed the system, replace the rad cap. now after a cold start it warms up correctly and the heat comes on and then the temp needle drops from normal to C and then jumps to almost H for about 15 secounds then returns to normal and stays there. I did notice the plastic coolent tank was filled almost to the top. and the top hose seemed very hard. there is no smoke no oil in the coolent and no coolent in the oil. I am taking it in on monday for a block test. any suggestion whats going on thanks
My 3.0 has given me MANY cooling problems. I replaced everything to do with cooling the engine minus the water pump.. Replace your upper and lower rad hoses (easy to do). It could also be a temp gauge gone wrong?
I had the gauge checked it is working properly, the hoses were replaced just before winter, I did this because of the age of them. I checked all the spark plugs they all have a normal appearance, I have dealt with cooling problems on many trucks before but this one has me puzzled.
