vent bowls

Been playing around with the emissions on my 85 F150. From the carb there are two metal tubes that go to short rubber hoses to these fuel vent bowl sensor things, then they go to a black canister. One of the local repair shops gave me a big story about they are no longer made, but found them aftermarket then wanted to charge me $300 for them!

Can I just plug the metal tubes before the fuel vent bowl senosor things, rip out the black canister and just go for the big one?

You can remove the metal tubes a get a plug like a freeze plug and plug them. I telling you what I did with a 4180 Holley 4BBL. So not sure about the carb your working with I would still say YES, long before paying $300. But also they are part of the smog system and it is against the law to remove smog equipment, especially if you live in a State that does SMOG CHECKS.

Make a plug out of a short piece of the rubber hose and section of wooden dowel (or a stick of the right diameter). Since there is no pressure on it you don't even need hose clamps.
